BARBADOS MUSEUM AND HISTORICAL SOCIETY
The exhibition “Exposed: Images of Yesteryear” is on at the Barbados Museum , St. Ann ’s Garrison , St. Michael , from April 09 to June 11, 2010 . This is your chance to see Farley Hill Great House before it burned and many other rare images of a Barbados that few of us will recognise. Immerse yourself in scenes of the island captured by early photographers both known and unknown. Take a visual stroll down Broad Street and the Pierhead in the late 1800s, both teaming with activity. See what Roebuck Street and River Road looked like over 100 years ago, and beyond the city limits, take in Joe ’s River and Bathsheba of the early 1900s. Barbados of yesteryear is exposed through landscape images, portraits and even family albums. The scenes can be yours too, as reproductions of the images may be requested. These selections from the museum’s collection allow visitors to examine the earliest commercially available photographic processes such as daguerreotype, tin type, albumen, glass plate negatives, callotype and the early twentieth century use of photographic gel images. This is a unique opportunity to see the changing views of Barbados through the photographic lens shortly after the invention of photography in 1832.
An exhibition will be held at the Barbados Museum of photographs from each participant in the recent National Geographic Photo Camp Barbados. From May 15 to July 14, 2010 , members of the public will have a chance to see the results of the four-day workshop, during which disadvantaged students documented their environment under the guidance of National Geographic photographers Sam Abell and Matt Moyer . The Photo Camp was sponsored by the US Embassy, the Barbados Museum & Historical Society, Breakwater Management Services, Goldcorp Insurance Company, Chancery Chambers and Allstate International Assignments Limited, and many other public and private sector entities contributed generously to make it a success. The work coming out of this initiative is outstanding. Come see for yourself!
Monday to Saturday, 9am . to 5pm. and Sundays 2pm. to 6pm . St. Ann ’s Garrison , St. Michael , Tel: 1-246-427-0201 / 1-246-436-1956 Fax: 1-246-429-5946 email museum@caribsurf.com

Directions to Ocean Spray
South Coast/Oistins Directions: Drive through Oistins on the South Coast road as if going to Enterprise/Miami Beach (following road to right after Police Station). Drive straight along that road until you reach the ‘funny-shaped’ roundabout. Continue straight across the roundabout (not literally!). Keep straight again; you will pass Roy Smith’s bar on the right (painted Heineken green), keep going. At the fifth right turn after Roy Smiths, you will see a post with signs to Ocean Spray, Peach and Quiet, Point View, Surfer’s Point. Turn right and follow the Ocean Spray signs.
Highway/Wilcox Directions: Take the ABC Highway to the Henry Forde Roundabout. Continue on the Highway and take the first right turn immediately after the roundabout (by Ball’s Plantation). Go down that road (Providence) and take a left at the T-Junction. When you reach the Shell Gas Station (Pilgrim Place), make a right turn. You will drive down and find yourself behind the airport. Continue around the curve behind the runway, following the main road (it takes a right turn) down Wilcox Hill. Go down Wilcox and at the very end of the road, you’ll reach another t-junction (Chancery Lane is to the left). Turn right, and then look for the signs for Inch Marlowe and Ocean Spray. If these directions have confused you, or you get lost, call Ocean Spray 428-5426.Alternately, leave home really early, take the South Coast/Oistins route, and chill out by the seashore until the show starts!
ZR Directions: Take the Number 11 van from Bridgetown or anywhere along the south coast. Ocean Spray is pretty much the end of the route. Ask the driver/conductor to let you off at and show you the track to Buffy’s Bar. Take the road opposite Buffy’s and you will see Ocean Spray at the end of it. (Ask someone at Buffy’s if uncertain)
