Tides Art Gallery at The Tides Restaurant, Holetown, St James. Tides Art Gallery will be closed from Sept 1st – Sept 16th for refurbishment. On show at the Tides Art Gallery is a collection of exciting, new work by Trinidad based artist Sarah Beckett. The collection, entitled “Rhapsody in Red” is a series of eight pastel drawings and two poems that reflect Beckett’s intense connection to musical inspiration, both visual and emotional. Barbados Museum and Historical Society & The National Art Gallery CommitteeCrop Over’ Exhibition extended through September 15, 2008. Crop Over is a multi-screened video and sound work by British artist Sonia Boyce, which premiered at Harewood House in Leeds, England. The video installation features two large screens, and is accompanied by photographs taken by Barbadian artist William Cummins. The Council of the BMHS announces a 75th anniversary gift to the nation - all Barbadians will be given free entry to the Museum upon presentation of ID! The National Art Gallery Committee has just released their new site http://www.nage.bb/ now in the public domain and live to the world. Artist’s who have not signed up may do so now. It is free, The website for the National Art Gallery Committee is now live. You are invited to view the site at http://www.nagc.bb/ The NAGC site includes the ArtistNet database with profiles and images from Barbadian artists. To view click 'Artists' . Artists who wish to be included in the ArtistNet must complete the NAGC artist's profile. The completed profile and a CD of 5 images with matching descriptors should be submitted to the National Art Gallery Committee. The profile form and instructions can be downloaded from the website. Forms can also be requested by e-mail at nagc1998@yahoo.com or sebain@live.com or collected at the NAGC Secretariat, Ministry of Community Development and Culture, Bay House, Bay Street , St. Michael. The database is a free NAGC service.
