THE NATIONAL ART GALLERY COMMITTEE
Conference: Caribbean Curatorship and National Identity, Nov 30th through December 2nd.  For details, registration & hotel rates visit the website for the National Art Gallery Committee www.nagc.bb  Caribbean Curatorship and National Identity is an examination of how history is interpreted and heritage is shaped by communal memory for audiences, old and new, local and foreign. The topic allows for a broad array of issues to be examined in intensive consultation through a regional symposium and master classes to be developed in Barbados between November/December, 2009, in conjunction with the Museums Association of the Caribbean (MAC), the National Art Gallery Committee (NAGC), the International Curators Forum (ICF) and the International Council of Museums (ICOM). While on island the visiting delegates are invited to a reception in their honour at The Barbados Arts Council Gallery ( www.barbadosartscouncil.com )  and will also be treated to a day tour and lunch organized by fine art photographer Leslie Taylor ( Barbados) and Asif Khan ( British Arts Council).

Barbados National Art Gallery one step further. The National Art Gallery Act 2007 came into being October 1st by proclamation signed by C. Straughan Husbands, Governor General for Barbados. This event signals significant progress toward the actual National Art Gallery and the specific responsibilities within the law which will be the remit of the National Gallery.

The site includes ArtistNet, the database of Barbadian visual artists; a click on ‘Artists’ will take you there.  Joscelyn Gardner has recently joined ArtistNet.  ArtistNet is a FREE NAGC service for artists. BAJAN REPORTER
Blog imparting opinions and uncovering Barbadian and Caribbean  Arts and News. ( Daily Reviewer Best Of The Web Top 100 Blogs)    http://bajanreporter.blogspot.com/       . Congratulations to Bajan Reporter who has been a wonderful patron to the arts in Barbados by giving all art forms exposure in his blog and so helping our culture get out there.

Bajan Reporter currently operates a Web-Magazine (http://bajanreporter.blogspot.com ) which in the brief span of 3 years has jumped from 200 to 1,300 readers a day without direct promotion, rather than allow such an opportunity slip to the wayside - has taken steps to make room for Advertising on the online publication.  Bajan Reporter is not seeking to list astronomical rates as seen on other sites... Instead has a reasonable structure for banners, towers, blocks and text ads, etc. And a pay plan - if you book a full year now and pay up front get FIFTEEN (15) months of ad space! Budget deal allows half now and half again at six months earning 13 (THIRTEEN) months of ad space. The site will soon be completed and will be available for viewing.

An unofficial viewpoint.  Interesting blog that covers Caribbean events and Barbados’ monthly arts happenings   http://aecgray.blogspot.com/
