1. The existing Group Show including work by Heather Dawn Scott, Peter Springer, Vanita Comissiong, Rafza Nehaul, Bill Grace, Gordon Webster, Catharine Cummins, and Patrick Foster among others, closes on Saturday, 5th July, 2008.

3. Saturday, 19th July – Saturday, 16th August, 2008 “PLAYING MAS’ WITH A MESSAGE” . An exhibition of the designs, costumes and masks created by international award winning designer Brian Mac Farlane for Trinidad Carnival 2008. Charity opening in aid of Environmental charities including the Barbados Marine Trust on Saturday, 19th July at 5 p.m. This performance and exhibition are scheduled to appear in New York for the United.Nations. at the end of August/early September 2008, together with the exhibition of masks, designs and costumes which will be shown at the Lincoln Centre, Manhattan. All enquiries for tickets for the Carnival performance and Exhibition preview should be made by phoning 432-0458 or on line to mailto:belevedere@sunbeach.net .This exhibition is specifically planned to coincide with Kadooment and there will be a series of Mask Making Master Classes both for children and adults together with guided tours of the exhibition during which the environmental theme and messages incorporated in the designs will be explained.

Artist’s Club Meeting will take place at Lancaster on Tuesday July 8th , from 6pm.Joscelyn Gardner will be hosting the evening with a powerpoint presentation about her trip to India in 2006 for the “Khoj Kolkata International Artists’ Workshop”. KHOJ International Artists’ Association is an artist led, alternative space for experimentation and international exchange, based in India. It sees its role as an incubator for art and ideas, artistic exchange and dialogue in the visual arts. KHOJ Kolkata is a local chapter of the KHOJ International Artists Association, New Delhi.It was launched a few years ago by five local artists and theoreticians, themselves engaged in alternative artistic practice, who all shared the belief that such a platform should be created inKolkata. The KHOJ International Kolkata Workshop 2006 was coordinated by the contemporary artist community from Kolkata and Santiniketan. Twelve international and 12 Indian artists took part to the workshop (among those, was Joscelyn). As usual, your generous contribution towards our ‘Buffet & Bar’ is as always, very appreciated. Anyone wishing to join the Artists club can get their $Bds35.- half year membership from our deputy treasurer, Susan Mahon. Queen’s Park Gallery The National Cultural Foundation cordially invites you to the Opening of ‘OAS: ReEncounter’ an exhibition of recent work by Omowale Stewart, Akyem Ramsay and Sundiata Stewart on Sunday July 6th 2008 at 5pm. Thematically the Stewarts often reflect their world, with scenes of Caribbean life. Sundiata’s influences veer more to Matisse of his North African period and Omowale owes more to Gauguin. Both are excellent draughtsmen and colourists. Ras Akyem’s themes continue from previous work, but he explores his ideas in this exhibition largely in sculptural works. It is a new departure into a very exciting period in his work. Curator: Janice Whittle. The exhibition closes on August 2nd. Opening Hours: 10am – 6pm Monday to Saturday. The Council of the BMHS announces a 75th anniversary gift to the nation - all Barbadians will be given free entry to the Museum upon presentation of ID! This new policy takes effect from June 23, 2008 and continues indefinitely. It is symbolic that this announcement is made on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the first Temporary Exhibition of the Barbados Museum & Historical Society, which was opened at Queen’s Park House on June 23, 1933! This temporary exhibition was the nucleus for the first permanent exhibits and it provided the first opportunity for the public to see the relevance of the newly-formed BMHS to the society.

ON THE MAP at the BWU, (Barbados Workers Union) Solidarity House, Harmony Hall on Tuesday, July 15th at 7.30pm Free Admission. Beautifully shot in Barbados, Guyana and Trinidad, is a thirty two minute video documentary which gives un/documented migrants an opportunity to speak about their intra-regional migrant experience. The video looks at the movement of people from Guyana to Barbados, within the context of the CSME. Annalee Davis will introduce the video project. After the screening, Peter Wickham will respond to ON THE MAP before moderating a discussion with the audience. ON THE MAP has already been screened at Festivals and Conferences in Grenada, New Orleans, San Andres Island and Toronto. It will be screened at CARIFESTA X in Guyana in August and at the Trinidad Film Festival in September.
