QUEEN’S PARK GALLERY

Feb 13th – Mar 6th  Group Show: Barbados Photographic Society exhibition ‘People Places and Things’ opening reception, Sunday, Feb13th, 6.30pm. It is an exhibition of about 30 photographs by members of the Barbados Photo Society. The exhibition varies in style and subject matter with work by well-known as well as emerging photographers, so prices and sizes will vary.
The locations are local as well as such exotic places as Morocco. In this exhibition you will have everything: architecture, flowers,people, abstracts, colour and black and white. Several of the photographers have won local and international awards.
The exhibition closes on March 6th. The Gallery opening hours will return to 10am -6pm Monday to Saturday.On Mondays and Saturdays, only one Attendant works so we must close for lunch. If you intend to visit the Gallery on those days, please call first. Lunch is generally 2-3pm, but may vary according to how busy the Gallery is.

BARBADOS PHOTOGRAPHIC SOCIETY

Feb 13th – Mar 6th  Group Show: Barbados Photographic Society exhibition ‘People Places and Things’ opening reception, Sunday, Feb13th, 6.30pm. Exhibition ends March 6th. It is an exhibition of about 30 photographs by members of the Barbados Photo Society.
The BPS has among its aims & objectives: the fostering of the art and craft of photography and the encouragement of the appreciation and enjoyment of photography.
A wide variety of activities are currently offered and nurtured: local & overseas field trips; Open Walls; Workshops conducted by members and experts; Exhibitions; Assignments and Competitions; Facebook communications/dialogues/postings and social get togethers. The BPS also conducts Workshops for young children in it’s Schools programs. Membership Cards are issued and attract discounts at participating businesses providing photographic services.

THE MAIN GUARD

INTRODUCTORY ART CLASSES. Every Thursday from 1pm – 3pm Barbadian artist  Fielding Babb and BARP invites people to join Fielding at The Main Guard ( building with clock tower) Verandah, The Garrison for an opportunity to get creative juices flowing. An exhibition of art from the H. Richard Sonis and Nancy S. K. As part of the Opening Ceremony.Prof. Alvin Thompson is to present his latest book, *Confronting Slavery – Breaking through the Corridors of Silence.

Once again join Canadian artist Ariel Lyons on location in Barbados, to explore buildings, water and tropical foliage in watercolours or acrylics. Some painting skills are required. Ariel’s workshops are very popular and spaces are limited, so reserve your place early! February 17, 18, 19, 2011.

Thursday Feb 17, 2011: Speightstown — chattel house/ buildings of old town, working with two point perspective.
Friday Feb 18, 2011: Bathsheba—  panoramic view or creating movement from the study of moving water working with contour line, pattern, pastel resist and yupo paper.
Saturday Feb 19 2011: A botanical garden— Tropical foliage: Making a variety of greens and creating a pattern working from plein air study.
Materials  A supply list is available. Cost: $250 per day  or $650 for all three days (entrance fees and picnic lunches included).
